Fear not! I have your next great read.

As an author, I get asked for book recommendations a lot. And sometimes I’m stumped. Not becuase I don’t have favorite fiction to recommend, but because I have SO MANY favorites. In so many time periods and genres. And by so many good authors.

My website is chock full of posts in which I recommend books, or just read on for a look at upcoming releases I’m excited about and a round-up of some of my past recommendations.

First a quick reminder. I write Christian historical fiction (you can learn more about why I write that here) but I don’t read exclusively Christian fiction, nor do I only read historical. Be it a mystery, women’s lit, contemporary romance, or even horror— if it has compelling characters and a great plot I’m willing to give it a go. (My exceptions are any romance labeled ‘hot’, ‘spicy’, or ‘erotic’ because that’s really not my thing). If something I’m recommending has what I’d call a PG or PG-13 rating, I’ll make sure to note that in the review.

There are several books I CAN’T WAIT to see released. In fact, the following books I didn’t have to wait for. I was thrilled these authors asked me for early-reader endorsements for these fabulous upcoming releases:

Amy Harmon’s The Unknown Beloved releases on April 19th (preorder here!). I was honored to endorse a book by one of my all-time favorite authors. Here it is: The Unknown Beloved has all the thrills of a murder mystery deftly woven with history and a heart-melting romance. As tough as true crime, as tender as a first kiss, it’s storytelling magic.”  Note: Amy’s romance moments are always in good taste, and I’d rate this book somewhere between PG and a PG-13.

To Love A Viking by Heather Day Gilbert and Jen Cudmore releases June 27th (preorder here) “To Love A Viking has everything I love about historical fiction: action, adventure, and a captivating romance. Just as intriguing are the questions the story explores about what it means to be a woman, a wife, and a mother – in history and in our lives today. To Love A Viking will keep you turning the pages for a compelling story and deep insight into our unique gifts as women.

Heirlooms, by Sandra Byrd releases July 5th (preorder here). “Thoughtful, poignant, and so sharply written you can smell the sun-warmed strawberries, Heirlooms honors friendships that transcend culture and family bonds that transcend time. Sandra Byrd’s memorable characters remind us that we’re forged by the lives of generations past and called to plant seeds of hope for the future.”

Come Down Somewhere, by Jenn W. Wright releases September 6th (preorder here!) “Jenn W. Wright brings a devastating event in our nation’s history to light with a poignant story of friendship and faith. In a landscape fraught with heartbreak, Come Down Somewhere speaks a life-giving message of forgiveness—for our friends, our enemies and ourselves. For readers who crave a story with the grit of real life and the grace redemption, Come Down Somewhere will satisfy and enlighten.”

I can’t forget to mention a book I’m currently reading for endorsement and can’t wait to get back to (after I finish this blog post): Shadowed Loyalty, by Roseanna M. White. I’m about ten chapters in and utterly hooked. I’m sure I’ll be able to wholehearted recommend Roseanna’s latest when I turn the last page. It releases May 2nd and you can preorder it right here. (also, does that cover model look familiar? She should. She also graced the cover of In A Far-Off Land!)

If you need a good read right now and can’t wait for these upcoming releases, you can read up on my reviews and recommendations for WWII historical fiction, stories about friendship, books by Tyndale authors, and even a post for those of you who like Slightly Spooky Reads. You can flash back a couple years with Top Ten Reads of 2020 (all still good!). Or get ready for summer with this Best Summer Reading post. If that’s still not enough book recommendations, you’re bound to find something in the Spectacular Book List for Christmas Gifting.

Or check out this new website, Shepherd Books, where I write about The Best Books that Bring Women of the Bible to Life, including titles by Tessa Afshar, Mesu Andrews, and Tosca Lee.

And last but not least, you can find your next great historical fiction read by taking this fun quiz:

It’s your turn! Tell me in the comments what books you recommend. I’d love to put them on my TBR (to be read) list!

  1. A few good books I’ve read recently: Magic Hour, Kristin Hannah; The Other Einstein, Marie Benedict; The Music of Bees, Eileen Garvin; The Last Flight, Julie Clark; The Forest of Vanishing Stars, Kristin Harmel; The Rose Code, Kate Quinn. So many good books and authors…so little time!!!

  2. Thinking of rereading some Eugenia Price novels, looking for her Christian testament book titled Beloved. Also Hannah Hurnard, I never read the sequel to Hind’s Feet on High Places, titled Mountain of Spices. Both are Classics.
In regular Fiction, a movie or the book, anything written by Rosamunde Pilcher, Scottish Author. For fun I like to study lives of famous females who left a mark in the World, such as Beatrice Potter and Agatha Christie.
Enough! I have aged myself here this AM. I love to read. Always have.

    1. I didn’t know there was a sequal to Hind’s Feet. I read that a few years ago and found it fascinating. And I remember reading a lot of Rosamunde Pilcher! She always has a good story. There’a. lot out about Agatha Christie right now that is interesting. Thanks for letting me know what you are reading!
