Yays, Nays, and LOL tweets from The Bible episode 2

As I mentioned in last week’s post, I give The Bible miniseries on the History Channel an enthusiastic thumbs up. It’s not perfect, but it’s beautiful and moving and far better than the other choices on prime time TV. And so, last Sunday night found me watching the second episode while keeping an eye on Twitter’s hashtag #TheBible. Over the two hour program, I came to several highly unscientific conclusions:

Tweets about The Bible were overwhelmingly positive.

During the two hour broadcast, #TheBible hashtag, received about 50 tweets per minute. Most of the tweets were positive, such as Watching #TheBible and loving it and Glad to know this world hasn’t completely forgotten Jesus. #ThankYouGod and #TheBible starts now, can’t wait to jump in
Still, there were some naysayers in the bunch. Most negative comments were about the Biblical accuracy of the show itself. One tweeter complained, This is the cliff notes version of scripture. Another said, sad we live in a time where watching #TheBible becomes the equivalent of reading #TheBible. Convenience is the name of the game.

One of the biggest tweeting issues was on the ethnicities of the actors, or lack thereof.

My issue with #TheBible on #History is these white actors with British accents…. No Hebrew or Arabic?
Dear #TheBible, do you HONESTLY think people during Bible times had incredibly poor British accents?
But when the dark-skinned, dreadlocked Sampson came onscreen, the tweets exploded and most were in favor of Samson:
Samson was an African Hebrew? Consider my childhood rocked.
Digging dreadlocked Sampson.

Violence was another recurring theme for tweeters.

This episode was entitled “Homeland” included the battle of Jericho, war with the Philistines, and David cutting off Goliath’s head – pretty violent stuff. Some tweeters thought it was great for kids:
I love that my kids r enjoying #thebible series as much as I am!

Others, not so much: I don’t let my kids watch violent movies so I’m torn with #thebibleseries. Way too much for young people.

Finally, there were some tweets that had me laughing out loud.

Yo @jesus and @god,.. U fellas getting any royalties from this new show on @history #thebible?? I hope so.
Samson is like the Chuck Norris of #TheBible
And the winner, in my opinion, after what seemed like the tenth ChristianMingle commercial of the night:
Looking for love…find your Delilah or Jezebel on ChristianMingle.com.
You can’t please everyone all the time and there were some mixed opinions once again this week. But I’m still a fan of The Bible and am looking forward to next week, when Jesus enters the picture.

Your turn: What would you tweet about The Bible?
