Summer Reading Time Is Here

What are you reading this summer? I love summer reading and I’ve got a lineup of great books I’m looking forward to. But first . . .

A great big thanks to all of you who have read In A Far-Off Land! I’ve heard from many of you personally (THANK YOU!) and seen the reviews on Amazon and Goodreads (THANK YOU! THANK YOU!)

If you’ve read In A Far-Off Land, don’t be shy about leaving a review. It’s easy and takes on a minute. Amazon, Goodreads, BookBub are all good places. No need to write one of those dreaded middle-school book reports, a few sentences are all that’s needed. And so appreciated! Reviews help to get the book in front of more readers and recommended on what-to-read-next lists!

Here are quick links to places you might review In A Far-Off Land. Many thanks, friends!

I love summer in Minnesota. In fact, its so beautiful and green it’s hard to remember that we have snow and ice six months of the year. When I’m not writing, I can be found in the garden, riding my bike, or walking with friends or the dog . . . and, of course, reading!

I’ve got a lineup of books I’m finishing up and looking forward to.

First, if you read only one book this summer (after In A Far-Off Land) make it Under the Magnolias by T.I. Lowe. What a treat! It’s fiction at its finest–a sweet romance, coming-of-age, family-centered story that touches on the difficulties of mental illness. Bonus: it’s set in the 1980s so if you’re an 80s girl like me, you’ll love all the references to clothes, hair, makeup and music that made that decade unforgettable.

I’m also finishing up a fantastic read by Tosca Lee, one of my favorite authors and an all-around amazing lady. A Single Light is the second in her apocalyptic series about — guess what? — a pandemic that ravages America and a woman who faces it with courage and conviction. It is eerily familiar, even though it was published before our own pandemic. If you like fast-moving, action-packed fiction you’ll love this book.

As for what I’m looking forward to, in no particular order: The Girl in the Painting, by Tea Cooper, a dual-timeline story set in Australia in the late 1800s and early 1900s is one I just started on audio and am already hooked. If It Rains, a debut novel releasing from Jennifer L. Write in July is a Depression-Era tale that I can’t wait to dive into. The Nature of a Lady by Roseanna M. White is sure to be good because her books ALWAYS are, and I’ve been saving The Huntress, by Kate Quinn for a long rainy weekend because I know I won’t put it down until I’ve finished it.

And last but not least, I’ve just ordered The Orchard House by Heidi Chiavaroli! I think that might go to the top of my TBR list just because the cover is so absolutely beautiful and I’ve heard such great things about this Louisa May Alcott-inspired time-slip novel.

What are you reading this summer? I still have some room on my summer reading list, so tell me what I should add to my TBR in the comments below. And let me know if any of these books look like they’ll make it on your list.
